Add the correct repositories:
32bit

• deb http://techweb.rfa.org/debrfa etch main
• deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ etch main contrib non-free

64bit

• deb http://apt.harleystudio.co.za/ etch main
• deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ etch main contrib non-free

Install mysql-server using your favourite method.

Only after MySQL is installed and running, now mark and install the rivendell package, and all it's dependencies.

You must use your current audio user as the Rivendell user, you do not need to create a new user for rivendell.

Now follow the Wiki from the heading Install Rivendell

Do not expect Rivendell to "just play" from the start. It is not a media player, but a powerful broadcasting platform. It has a slight learning curve, but the result is an app that I use exclusively as my play out platform for live shows.
